Weight Loss After a Normal Delivery

Weight Loss After a Normal Delivery

Are you worried by the issues of weight loss after a normal delivery? You can lose the extra flab and get back in your pre-pregnancy shape quickly with our guidelines on effective ways to lose weight post delivery.

Post delivery, new mothers are always in a hurry and are amply worried as to when they will be able to get back in their pre-pregnancy shape. After a normal delivery and even otherwise the weight gained during the pregnancy terms remains. And since you have not had a caesarean section, it is less complicated for you to get back into a workout regimen.

You simply need to take care of the various aspects mentioned in your post delivery care by your physician. All that is required is to stick to your diet and workout regimen and understand that change do not take place overnight. Be patient, disciplined and wait for the results to show. Here are the principle factors that you need to note for weight loss after a normal delivery:

Check Your Diet

Pregnancy eating habits are a lot different from what is suggested to you during the post pregnancy stage. During your entire pregnancy term, the diet had been such that you were able to provide the nutrition and nourishment for the growth and development of the fetus. Now post delivery, you still need to take good care of your nutrition levels in your diet, especially since now you are also nursing the baby. The point to note here is that, do not eat “for two” at this stage when you are looking to lose the extra flab. Just focus on a balanced nutritious diet. Here is how you can go about it –

1. Eat Only When Hungry –

Usually, pregnant women tend to have meals at regular charted timings. Post delivery, when you want to lose weight come out of this practice and ensure that you have food only when you are hungry and not when everyone else is having their food. This will ensure that you eat only when your body needs food.

2. Incorporate a Lot of Fruits, Veggies and Whole Grains –

These are food elements that have high fiber content. Remember, foods with high fiber induces a full feeling and you tend to avoid second helpings, while at the same time they ensure that you acquire the necessary amount of proteins and vitamins.

3. Serve Yourself Smaller Portions –

When you focus on losing the pregnancy weight, you need to opt for smaller and more frequent meals, instead of the three whole meals that you might have had during your pregnancy stage. Note, it is a bad idea to skip meals just to lose weight, as you reduce the nutritional levels in the process. So, go for smaller meals, which will be easy on your sensitive digestive system and make sure that you do not miss out on the essential nutrients.

4. Avoid Indulgence –

It is natural to feel like going for your favourite dishes now. But if you want to get back in shape fast, you need to overcome the urge to binge on junk and fatty foods that are filled with empty calories. Although, it is not a sin to indulge once a while, say a scoop of your favourite ice-creme or a piece of chocolate, but just make sure that you are honest with yourself on your daily calorie intake.

Exercise Regularly

Regular physical activity is the only steady and effective way to lose weight. Post delivery, you need to seek the advice of your doctor on what are the exercises that will be safe for your condition. Follow the suggestions and chart out an exercise regimen in consultation with a certified fitness instructor. Make sure that you do not experiment or decide things on your own, but follow the instructions as you must remember that your body is still at the recuperating stage after the childbirth stress.

Finally, it is important that you set some realistic goals regarding weight loss after a normal delivery. Some celebrity gossip or a fashion magazine cannot act as your guide to weight loss or state how you ought to look after childbirth. Remember, every individual has a different body structure and accordingly it has to be decided on what sort of weight loss exercise and diet would be appropriate for her. You must take care not only to remain fit and healthy but also meet the nutritional requirements of your baby, as he or she is solely dependant on you for nourishment.
